I agree with Seamus. You can't go wrong with a Champ. Even if you decide later to get a bigger amp, the Champ will always be a great amp to have around.

I just bought a vintage (1959) Alamo Paragon forty watt bass head and cabinet to use at home and for smaller clubs and traded my Champ off, but it was a great little amp and sounded really good with a mic on the cabinet too. I just couldn't pass up the Alamo...
