Hi,
I have been practising hard since joining a few months ago,i have outdone even my own expectations.
My question is; I have a special20 in C, but now i am getting quite good at picking up a tune, I am finding that C seems to be a bit high pitched for the type of music i am trying to play, so I want something a bit lower/deeper pitch, what key is most commonly used after C? This may be a stupid question, but any help would be appreciated

an A, Bb, and G or Low F would work in majors...

a Natural Harmonic in A or other keys may be nice to try as well...

not to mention a Chromatic if you're up for that...

I'd recommend an A next, particularly if you can get hold of a guitar player. They often like playing in E, which is 2nd position (ie good for blues) on an A harp.

I agree - C's are a bit high pitched for my ear, but there is lots of instructional material in C and lots of people seem to like singing in C. Ukulule beginners (which seem to be taking over the world) also do a lot of stuff in C, so I use my C in 1st position for a lot of the tunes I play with the local uke group

Personally, I like my G cause a lot of music is written in this key after C.
I'm also partial to my Bb. I enjoy it's sound.

I find that I really like the A harp, of course coming from a guitar background my ear is tuned to that key more then the C harp so that may have something to do with it. The G harp is really low and powerful sounding IMHO which may be more of what you're looking for.

Well thanks for your replies, I plumped for a Lee Oskar in A, two things, the A harp was exactly the sound i was looking for! and the Lee Oskar is much easier to play than the special 20, once i trained my lips to the slighly "fatter" shape, bending is now virtually assured rather than the hit and miss i was experiencing before, of course this could be just "the new toy" phase But it just seems so much more responsive.

I have both Spec20s and LOs.

I'm glad I started with the Spec20s, but my LOs get most of my action now!

Isn't that strange???

I have both SP20 AND LO's, and much prefer the SP20, thought I prefer my Suzuki's and Seydels over both of them.

In fact I really DISLIKE the LO's.

So much so that Ive even got rid of all of the ones that I owned.

I found them to lack volume, not be as airtight as other harps, and lacking in richness of tone.

Just shows you that its all about individual prefereance nothing to do with "which is better".
