I've wanted to learn this one for a long time now. I found the tabs at HarpTabs, but no words. Anybody got tabs with the words to Dirty Old town? Sure would appreciate it? This is a favorite of mine.

The internet is such a wonderful thing. It's amazing what you can find with Google!

Lyrics to Dirty Old Town by the Pogues:

I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
Kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Clouds a drifting across the moon
Cats a prowling on their beat
Spring's a girl from the streets at night
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I Heard a siren from the docks
Saw a train set the night on fire
I Smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I'm going to make me a big sharp axe
Shining steel tempered in the fire
I'll chop you down like an old dead tree
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
Kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

How that lines up with the tab, I don't know. I don't thing I've heard the song. The lyrics aren't familiar at all.

Hey, thanks a lot Frank. I ran across the tabs for this without words. It's a nice tune, but I have trouble learning when I don't have the words to sing in my head, know what I mean. Appreciate the tip too - I'll try to google for lyrics next time I need em. Yepper, what would be be doing without the internet - not near as much, eh.

Here's a tab that works. (Sorry about all the dots - repeated spaces get removed!)

I remember hearing this song done by Roger Whittaker several years before the Pogues. It was written by Ewan MacColl (Kirsty's father.)

I met my love by the gas works wall
4 -4 . -5 . -6 . -5 . 6 . -6 . -5 . . . 4

Dreamed a dream by the old ca-nal
. -6 . . . . 7 . -8 . . 7 . -6 . 6 . -5 -6

Kissed my girl by the fac-tory wall
. -8 . . 7 . -6 . -5 . 6 . -6 -5 . . 4

Dir-ty old town
-4 -5 . -6 . 6

Dir-ty old town
6 . -5 . -4 . -4

Clouds are drifting across the moon
Cats are prowling on their beat
Spring's a girl from the streets at night
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

I Heard a siren from the docks
Saw a train set the night on fire
I Smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

I'm going to make me a big sharp axe
Shining steel tempered in the fire
I'll chop you down like an old dead tree
Dirty old town
Dirty old town

I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
Kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
Dirty old town
