 How should I do it?
Jun-17-04 1:01am

Hey guys, I am just getting into the bending scene and was just looking for your opinions. The site here or Seamus has lessons on tongue blocking. Is that the best way to play blues. Am having a good go at TB and practicing heaps and getting good tone. Now I am getting into blues themes etc and trying to use lip blocking however needs a lot more practice but you get better effects doing it this way. Shoul I percevere with lip blocking or stick with tongue blocking.

Just a quick other one. When tongue blocking on hole 2 should mt tongue be just to the right of hole 1 or the right hsnd side.
Cheers.

The easy answer is to use whatever technique is most comfortable and gives you the greatest range of playing styles.

Personally, I never learned to tongue block, and always used the lip method, saving my tongue for other effects, like trills, warbles, and bends.

Do what works for you.

I agree with Doc, use what you are comfortable with. I prefer to use my lips to "pucker" a single note, rather than tongue block. Your tongue will get plenty of work when you become proficient at blocking holes in order to get an "octave". I once met John Mayall after one of his NY gigs and asked him if he used tongue blocking and he didn't know what I was talking about... he strictly puckers to get his single notes and he does a heck of a job!

When you saw Mayall, did he do "Room to Move"? One of my favorites.

On that particular night he did a rousing version of "Room To Move" that had everyone on their feet. I saw him play live a half dozen or so times and he only excluded that song twice. This spring I saw him play in Annapolis and they didn't play it.

That was one of the first songs that I learned to play.
