Lee Oskar Major vs. Hohner Special 20 |
Aug-30-04 1:56am Hi, i've been wanting to learn how to play the harmonica for quite a while, and now that I have enough money, I can actually buy one. I've come down to 2 choices for my first harmonica: the Lee Oskar Major, or the Hohner Special 20. I've been to many sites trying to determine which is better, but it seems that half of the people always go with the Lee Oskar, and the other half go with the Hohner. Could anyone tell me some major differences, and which you recommend? Thanks for your help, Nick |

Aug-30-04 5:55am [ re: Black Waltz ]nope no help here ! there are as many opions as there is people who have them my money is on the special 20 due to its ease of playing strait out, but here,s a quiz for you . youre just starting out right, why not get the most bang for the buck . instead of trying to learn on a 25 dollar harp there is 2 in the wing,s with an excellent sound and really cheap their called hotmetal& bluesband great sound for a little bite to the wallet and when you get to going good you can upgrade, as a matter of fact i prefer the keys of A,G,C and with a hotmetal you can get them all. for less than lee oskar or the special 20 hey it,s your dough . But trust me on this one i found out the hard way , these 2 beginner harps are fantastic beginner harps. oh did i mention there made by honer.hey just a suggestion your choice. and the sound will blow you away it did me! Aug-30-04 9:58pm [ re: Black Waltz ]Of the two models of harp that you mentioned, I would go with the SP 20. I find the SP 20 easier to play than the LO. The LOs, however, tend to last a little longer. I have played both and they are decent harps. In the long run, I suggest trying them both. Furthermore, I recommend trying several makes and models. I tried many makes and models over the years and in doing so I learned what I like in a harp. I look for responsiveness, tone, and longevity. If you were to ask another player, they might have an entirely different set of criteria. Harp choice does come down to personal preference and it takes some experimenting to find the right harp for you. When you do, the search was worth it. Aug-31-04 2:26am [ re: Black Waltz ]Thanks for all the help, I think I might go with the HotMetal, then later upgrade to a Special 20. 6 dollars is a lot easier on the wallet than 20. Nick |

Jul-10-10 12:17am [ re: Black Waltz ]THE LARGER NOTE OPENINGS IS A LOT BETTER FOR BEGINNERS. THE NOTES BEND A LOT EASIER ALSO. TRY G FIRST FOR THAT LOW BOOGIE SOUND. (FLORIDA BOB) |
